We survived Round One of iReady with grades 1 through 7. It was not without its hiccups, which we anticipated. It will be a lot easier next time. Please do not share any results with parents. We are waiting for directions from OCE. This week is relatively normal. There are no special schedules. There are three schedule disruptions - iReady for kindergarten, the Space Station Conservation assembly for Grades K through 4, and the High School Placement Test for Grade 8.
Please review procedures for external lockdown drills with your students. We will have our first external lockdown drill on Thursday afternoon around 1:30 PM. It is an announced drill so you can tell children that it is happening. Specials teachers will need to review with each group just in case. Your red folders were in your mailboxes. This is the drill where you just lock your door and keep working. It is a pretty simple one.
I am in the process of finding a replacement for Mary Boyce, whose last day is Wednesday. As soon as I am able to share news, I will do so. Please pray that things calm down. I have been dealing with a ton of things behind the scenes, and it has been a heavy start to the year. Speaking of heavy, Mr. Turner’s funeral will be on Friday at 12:00. Visitation will be from 9:00 until 11:45. If you have a prep, you are welcome to go to the viewing. If you have no lunch duty, you are welcome to attend Mass. I have double lunch duty on Friday. I will not be able to cover anyone during lunch.
We will be using new morning prayers and afternoon prayers this year. These prayers come from the list of Required Prayers by Grade Level: Required Prayers. There is a sheet in your blue folder that has all of the prayers. I am attaching a file that has a link to a Google Slides presentation that has each of the new prayers: Prayers. I would recommend pulling that up as we get started each day. The children will be learning the long form of the Act of Contrition that the Office of Catechetical Formation would like all students to know. They will not need to know that for this week’s confessions. We are going to work toward using the long form in November. Please begin reviewing with the children in religion class each day.

Virtue for the Month of September: Charity
Our theme this year is “Let us love one another for love comes from God.” This ties in with the Archdiocesan dedication to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Our virtue for this month is charity - showing love for God and love for others. It is our hope that the students will recognize those who shine the light of virtue as they strive to be witnesses of God’s love. Any teacher or staff member may nominate any student for our virtue wall of fame in the main lobby. I have to catch up on that and birthdays next week. I have to find the birthday list in FACTS.
